What's Involved

New Wiring, Properly Run.

A lot of the older homes and farmhouses around Cowra were built when fabric-insulated or early PVC wiring was standard. That wiring degrades over time - the insulation dries out, cracks, and eventually becomes a fire risk. A rewire is not a luxury; it is maintenance that old homes eventually need.

Safe removal of old wiring - fabric, rubber, and early PVC cables stripped out and disposed of properly.
New TPS cable run to AS/NZS 3000, every circuit - correct sizing, correct routing, correct terminations.
New switchboard or upgrade if needed - RCDs on every circuit, properly labelled.
Full test of every circuit before power goes on - polarity, insulation resistance, earth continuity.
Certificate of Compliance emailed with your invoice - the document your insurer and agent will ask for.
How To Tell

Six Signs Your Home Needs Rewiring.

Any one of these is worth a proper inspection - two or more and it's urgent.

Fabric Or Rubber-Insulated Wiring

If the wires behind your power points or in the ceiling have a cloth weave or rubber jacket, the insulation is past its safe service life. This is the #1 indicator.

Burning Smell Or Warm Outlets

A burning plastic smell near power points, switches, or the switchboard - even intermittently - means insulation is breaking down. Don't ignore it.

Frequent Unexplained Tripping

Breakers or fuses that trip without a clear cause are often a symptom of degraded insulation leaking current to earth. The safety switch is doing its job - the wiring needs replacing.

Major Renovation Or Extension

Renovations routinely uncover old wiring that can't be left in place once work has started. It's far cheaper to address it while the walls are already open.

Insurance Or Sale Inspection Flagged It

Insurers and building inspectors increasingly flag unsafe wiring. A Compliance Certificate after a rewire resolves those notices cleanly.

Adding A High-Load Circuit

EV charger, solar inverter, or large air conditioning system - these loads need wiring that can actually carry them. Old circuits often can't without an upgrade.

How A Rewire Runs

From First Call To Certificate.

Most residential rewires are a two- to four-day job. We'll give you a realistic schedule before we start - not a best-case guess.

Step 1

Inspect & Quote

We look at the existing wiring, board, and wall construction. You get a written, itemised quote - full rewire, partial, or just the problem circuits.

Step 2

Plan Access

We agree on timing, power-off windows, and how to minimise disruption. We notify Essential Energy if a supply disconnection is needed.

Step 3

Strip & Re-Run

Old wiring out, new TPS cable run, all outlets, switches, and fittings connected and tested circuit by circuit as we go.

Step 4

Test, Certify & Hand Over

Every circuit tested to standard, Certificate of Compliance issued, walk-through with you, and the workmanship guarantee in writing.

Rewiring FAQ

Common Questions

A typical three-bedroom home takes two to four days. Larger properties, concrete-block walls, or older homes with multiple cable types can push that out - we'll give you a realistic timeline when we quote, not an optimistic one.
For a full rewire, you'll be without power for most of each working day, so staying elsewhere for those nights is more practical than a hard requirement. For a partial rewire affecting only certain circuits, we can often keep the rest of the house live.
Cost depends on the size of the home, the type of existing wiring, wall construction (brick vs. timber frame), and how many circuits need replacing. A partial rewire covering a few old circuits can be done in a single day. We quote itemised and in writing - not ballpark over the phone.
The clearest signs are fabric-covered or rubber-insulated cables (look for a cloth weave around the wire jacket), frequent unexplained tripping, burning smells near outlets or the switchboard, or an electrician flagging unsafe wiring on a previous inspection. Homes built before the late 1970s often have at least some wiring that is past its safe service life.
Yes. Rental compliance is one of the main reasons landlords call us - either to meet an insurance requirement, an agent's recommendation, or a Fair Trading notice. We work around tenancies where possible and issue the Compliance Certificate you need for your records.
A partial rewire replaces specific circuits where the wiring is unsafe or undersized - common when only part of the house has been renovated or when a single circuit is causing problems. A full rewire strips and replaces all circuits from the switchboard out. We'll tell you honestly which one you need.
